You don’t need to be able to touch your toes to do yoga and you don’t need to be young. Yoga can be practiced by anyone regardless of their age, physical abilities and body or health conditions. Theses classes are tailored to a senior yogi.

Classes are sold in blocks of 6 weeks to make one course. Booking a course guarantees you a space.

I’m using a new venue for this The Anahata Yoga & Pilates Studio, in Shanklin.

Course 1. 28th January to 11th February. (3 weeks)

Course 2. 25th February to 1st April

Course 3. 22nd April to 20th May

Yoga for Seniors

Yoga for seniors proves an important point.

You don’t need to be able to touch your toes to do yoga and you don’t need to be young.  Far from it in fact. Yoga can be practiced by anyone regardless of their age, physical abilities and body or health conditions. Theses classes are tailored to a senior yogi. I draw on all my 20 years practice and teaching yoga to deliver a safe yoga practice.

6 good reasons to do yoga for seniors.

 

1. Improved Strength: yoga for seniors introduces adapted Yoga positions which help develop strength.

 

2. Improved Flexibility: yoga includes exercises which allow us to explore and develop movement around the joints.

 

3. Improved proprioception: proprioception is the sense of knowing where your body is in space and coordinating your movements accurately. 

 

4. Improved breath capacity: Within Yoga we practice breathing exercises that bring focus to the breath allowing it to deepen and lengthen.

 

5. Stress relief and relaxation: Working gently and mindfully with body and breath, relaxes the nervous system and lowers the stress response.

6. It’s social and fun too: it’s good to meet a small friendly group of people, yoga can be playful and energetic as well as peaceful.

    My venture into yoga was via Yoga for Seniors with Erling and being a bit creaky, it was with some trepidation, I really didn’t want to appear to be an old crock…I needn’t have worried, the Yoga for Seniors class is demanding but gentle and never a strain or a stress, you come out of the class invigorated but relaxed. I can move around a whole lot better now and looking forward to the new term!

    I have attended Yoga classes for over 40 years. Senior Yoga with Erling is without a doubt one of the best. His clear instruction and understanding of Senior Yoga needs is excellent.
